Habiter desktop app for habits, recovery, daily planning and focus

Local-first Desktop App & Preparation for Personal AI

Habiter

A local desktop app for daily planning, habits, recovery tracking and focused self-organisation. Built with Python, PySide6 and SQLite, with a structure prepared for future AI-assisted coaching and summaries.

Note: The app screenshots were anonymised for this portfolio. Private names, dates, tasks, journal entries and financial figures were removed or replaced with demo content.

Project Overview

A private workspace for habits, structure and progress

Habiter brings daily planning, weighted tasks, positive and problematic habits, journalling, history, focus time and calendar integration into a local app, without sending private data externally by default.

PySide6 Desktop UI

A native local interface with a sidebar, cards, tables, charts and a daily view.

SQLite Local-first

Data is stored locally in a SQLite database and remains under the user’s control.

Weights Prioritisation

Tasks and habits can be weighted to give a more nuanced view of progress.

AI-ready Extensible

AI features are planned as a future layer for coaching, reflection and summaries.

Workflow

From daily planning to long-term reflection

The workflow is deliberately practical: plan the day’s tasks, track habits, record setbacks or disruptions, then review the history and patterns.

  1. 01 Daily Structure

Morning, afternoon and evening sections divide the day into manageable planning periods.

  2. 02 Weighted Tasks

Tasks and habits receive weights so that important actions contribute more to the overall score.

  3. 03 Recovery Logs

Recovery and slip logs record events without erasing the rest of the day’s progress.

  4. 04 Journal & History

Reflections, history and editable past days help reveal patterns over time.

  5. 05 Charts & Streaks

Trend charts, streaks and domain balance show which areas of life are progressing consistently.

  6. 06 Calendar & Focus

A calendar view, iCal import and a Pomodoro focus room complement daily planning.

Habiter dashboard with progress, domain balance and history

01 / Dashboard

A central view of progress and the day ahead

The dashboard brings daily execution, growth consistency, streaks, domain balance, historical charts and recovery progress into one compact view.

Habiter daily planning with tasks, habits and weights

02 / Daily Planning

Tasks, habits and weights for each part of the day

The Daily view organises tasks by time of day and supports weights, notes and reusable library entries. This creates a flexible daily plan rather than a fixed checklist.

Show more views

The dashboard, Daily view and Pomodoro features work together: planning, execution and focus time stay within the same local workspace.

Habiter history with daily records and analysis by life area

03 / History

History, streaks and editable daily reviews

The History view shows which areas of life are progressing consistently, where tasks remain unfinished and how daily quality and habits develop over time.

Habiter Financial Wellness module with anonymised monthly data

04 / Financial Wellness

Financial clarity as part of self-organisation

Alongside habits and recovery, Habiter includes a focused space for financial overview. Expenses, categories, budgets and monthly history can be recorded locally.

Habiter Pomodoro focus room with a timer and sound controls

05 / Focus Room

A Pomodoro focus room for concentrated work sessions

The focus room adds a quiet timer, phase transitions and a soundscape area to daily planning. It makes Habiter a tool for doing the work as well as tracking it.

Other prepared areas include a calendar view, iCal import and a future AI layer. The planned AI features will use selected summaries only after explicit approval, rather than accessing the entire local database.
